All I could think of in relation to Budapest before arriving to the city was the film, “The Grand Budapest Hotel” directed by Wes Anderson, whose films I revere for their character complexity and eccentricities. But, alas Budapest was nothing like his film. Though the trip to Budapest was short and sweet, the city exceeded my expectations. We were there for one full day and it was Christmas. Christmas eve my three friends and I shared a delightful meal at one of the few restaurants that was open and enjoyed one another’s company. The following day we woke up early and walked through the city to the hot baths. We spent the day there soaking in the warm water and the sauna. I got a flavor for the city but it’s a place that I would feel lucky to have an opportunity to return to and explore more.
