A Perfect Weekend Getaway: Clearwater and St. Pete, Florida

If you’re dreaming of a weekend escape filled with sun, sand, and culture, look no further than the beautiful Gulf Coast cities of Clearwater and St. Pete, Florida. Known for their stunning beaches, vibrant arts scene, and delicious dining options, these sister cities offer the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. I went for a Summer wedding for a good friend. I’d been before and the area never disappoints.

Day 1: Clearwater’s Sun-Kissed Shores

Morning:

Start your weekend early with a sunrise walk on Clearwater Beach. This award-winning beach is famous for its powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters. I found some beautiful shells on the coast. Grab a coffee from a nearby café and take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline as the sun rises.

After soaking up some early morning rays, head to the Imagine Museum. This incredible 2 story museum is full of glass sculptures from artists around the globe. I never knew glass could take so many forms.

Afternoon:

For lunch, swing by Good Intentions Vegan Restaurant. I ordered a decked out Bloody Mary and the tofu wings with bbq sauce. Spicy and delicious! Perfect for the after wedding pick me up.

Evening:

As the day winds down, make your way to Pier 60 for the nightly Sunset Celebration. This lively event features local artisans, street performers, and live music. It’s the perfect way to end your day with a spectacular Gulf Coast sunset as your backdrop.

Day 2: Exploring St. Pete’s Arts and Culture

Morning:

Kick off your day with a visit to St. Pete’s famous Dali Museum. Home to the largest collection of Salvador Dali’s works outside of Spain, the museum offers a fascinating look into the surreal world of the legendary artist. Don’t miss the stunning architecture of the museum itself, with its unique geodesic glass structure known as the “Enigma.” I went to this museum last time I was in St. Pete, as Dalí is one of my favorite artists. It was absolutely incredible, complete with a 3D experience.

Afternoon:

For lunch, head to Central Avenue, where you’ll find a plethora of dining options ranging from trendy cafes to eclectic eateries. Afterward, explore the vibrant arts district, where colorful murals adorn many of the buildings. Pop into the various galleries and studios to see works by local artists.

Next, make your way to the Sunken Gardens, a hidden gem in the heart of the city. This 100-year-old botanical garden boasts lush tropical plants, cascading waterfalls, and serene koi ponds. It’s a peaceful oasis perfect for a leisurely afternoon stroll.

Tips for Your Weekend Getaway:

  1. Pack Sunscreen: The Florida sun can be intense, so make sure to protect your skin. I got quite sunburnt in Miami, whoops.
  2. Stay Hydrated: Keep a water bottle handy, especially if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors.
  3. Plan Ahead: Some attractions, like the Dali Museum, may require advance tickets, so check their websites before you go.
  4. Embrace the Local Vibe: Take time to chat with locals and get their recommendations for hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path spots.

Whether you’re looking to unwind on the beach or immerse yourself in the local culture, Clearwater and St. Pete offer a perfect weekend escape. With their beautiful scenery, rich arts scene, and welcoming atmosphere, these Gulf Coast gems are sure to leave you refreshed and inspired!
